Doctor Spotlight: Dr. David J. Harris, III

At University Eye Specialists, we’re excited to introduce Dr. David J. Harris, III, a distinguished cornea specialist, cataract surgeon, and comprehensive ophthalmologist who is proud to serve the East Tennessee community.

Dr. Harris’ journey in medicine began with a strong foundation in Biochemistry & Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He went on to earn his medical degree from the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. Following his passion for eye care, Dr. Harris completed an Ophthalmology residency and a fellowship in Cornea & External Diseases at the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine.

After completing his fellowship, Dr. Harris was appointed Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. There, he trained ophthalmology residents and cornea fellows at the renowned New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, earning The Jorge N. Buxton, M.D., Microsurgical Educator Award for his outstanding contributions to the surgical education of future ophthalmologists. He also served as the Medical Director for the Department of Ophthalmology at Mount Sinai West and Morningside hospitals, further solidifying his leadership in the field.

Dr. Harris later transitioned to private practice in New Jersey, where he continued to hone his skills before bringing his expertise to University Eye Specialists. Here, he offers a comprehensive range of services, including routine eye exams, cataract and corneal surgery, laser treatments, and other advanced ophthalmic surgical procedures.

With a keen interest in cutting-edge treatments such as laser cataract surgery, refractive surgery, advanced intraocular lens implants, and minimally invasive corneal surgery, Dr. Harris is dedicated to improving patient outcomes and enhancing their quality of life. His commitment to staying at the forefront of ophthalmology ensures that his patients receive the most up-to-date and effective care.

Dr. Harris is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). His continuous pursuit of knowledge and excellence in patient care makes him a valuable asset to our team and a trusted partner in your eye health journey.
