Joined University Eye Specialists: 1996
Dr. Gerald P. Lubert specializes in medical optometry and contact lenses. He has been with University Eye Specialists since 1996.
Dr. Lubert earned a master’s degree at the University of Tennessee and performed research involving light phases and vision. After graduating from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Lubert completed his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he received advanced clinical training and experience in fitting difficult cases of irregularly shaped corneas with specialty contact lens utilizing a wide variety of designs and materials.
Dr. Lubert has been a practitioner in the Knoxville area since 1986 and when the occasion arose, he welcomed the opportunity to join this long-established practice. The UES view of making patient care a top priority fit perfectly into Dr. Lubert’s medical philosophy. He also recognized the desirability of practicing with a group of dedicated professionals in a setting that offers comprehensive ophthalmology.
He especially enjoys the daily challenges of eye care and seeing patients’ response to restored or better vision.
Originally from Upstate New York, Dr. Lubert cites the climate, four seasons, mountains, lakes and people as a reason to stay in this region. He enjoys golf – especially being able to play nearly year-round – outdoor activities, yard work, swimming, reading and spending time with family.
He is part of UES’ Sports Medicine team that oversees the vision needs of UT athletes, and he volunteers with InterFaith Health Clinic to provide eye care. Dr. Lubert is active with the Knights of Columbus and has served on various council committees at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He has served on the school boards at Sacred Heart Cathedral School, Knoxville Catholic High School and St. John Neumann Catholic School, as well as the board of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee.
Dr. Lubert and his wife, Jane Houston Lubert, who is a native of Blountville in East Tennessee, have two grown daughters, Stephanie, an immigration attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Allison, an internal medicine physician in Knoxville, TN. They have a Shih Tzu dog named Bernie, who is a University of Tennessee Veterinary School HABIT Dog.
